OUR HISTORY
Constellation started when Sylvaine Rémy, an artist
painter, met with underprivileged in
the Philippines in 1995. Convinced that
artistic creation is a great tool to personal and collective development,
Sylvaine Rémy started to organise painting sessions in the shanty town of Tondo,
near Manilla, and also sessions for kids released from Manilla's children
prison.
The children's
great enthusiasm, as well as the quality of
their artwork,
although most of them were holding a paintbrush
for their first time, convinced her to
carry on in this project. Constellation was born!
Constellation, as a non-governmental
organisation, was then created in November
1996. It first started in Burkina Faso with an
artist painter called Tesseire
Kinda, and then
soon was starting in Venezuela under thanks
to the energy, enthusiasm and efforts of
Maritza Montero, a psychologist of the University of Caracas.
Since then, many
groups have been created thanks
to the help of local painters and volunteers. Sometimes,
the Constellation groups have been formed in association with local
organisations working towards children development.
