HOW WE WORK

Constellation looks for artists in developing countries who would be willing to set up and be in charge of the Constellation workshops, on a voluntary basis. Typically, the children Constellation is aiming at are street children, or living in slum areas or poor rural areas, orphans, etc...)
Constellation provides the groups with painting materials and financial support for the workshops to function.
The Constellation organisation also aims at exhibiting the children's artwork, through exhibitions, printing of postcards featuring their paintings and drawings, etc. The sale of the latter is one of the main financial income of Constellation.

Constellation also encourages the sharing and circulation of the artwork among the groups, to reinforce relationships, as well as help the children discover other cultures and horizons.

Our teams:

In every country, our teams are composed of the following :

- the volunteers : a leader and his/her team with at least one artist painter (who can be the leader). They are in charge of the teaching and the workshop activities. Parents and friends can also participate in Constellation's activities. It is one of Constellation's missions to slowly get local teams to work.

- the  children : they are girls and boys aged from 3 to 17 year-old, it can vary according to the groups. They're daughters and sons of nomads or minors, or kids living in the street, or underprivileged kids of rural areas.

The groups' activities:

The  first activity is artistic creation.   We give the children quality painting materials and we try to get them to discover new techniques. The children really improve the way they express themselves through art and create real pieces of artwork. We are quite demanding with the children - in regards to the quality of their artwork, the regularity of their work, etc -,  because our priority is to value the children.  Their artwork is one of the main resources of our organisation.

Exchanging:

The children from each group send to their work to other Constellation groups and thus make them discover who they are and the living conditions in their country, their parties and events, their history, the scenery, their feelings, etc...

Our newspaper:

Our newspaper is a vehicle to share Constellation's stories and to show the children's artwork. It is sent 3 times a year to each Constellation group and to the members of Constellation who wish to receive it (for a yearly contribution of 30 Euros). It is a link between the children and allows them to discover other countries, other horizons and other initiatives. It is also a very good tool to learn and be more open to the world.

Our exhibitions:

Our exhibitions are a way to get the children's artwork known, as well as the countries in which they live. It is also a way:
- to create links inside a same country: between the Alliance Francaise organisation, the local foundations, the craft houses, artists, etc
- to sell some of the artwork with all proceedings going back to the children
- to promote Constellation and make it known.
Exhibitions are organised in all countries where Constellation is present as well as in France.
