Since 1998, in the surroundings of Salta (North of Argentina) a
painter, Elsa Veron, has started to take in charge one and then 2
Constellation groups called “Pinceles y Pincelitos gauchos”. She’s
transmitting her sensibility and passion for colours to small
Indians, children of shepherds and miners. During the summer 2000,
the 2 groups’ paintings as well as paintings from other countries
were presented in a very nice exhibition in Salta, capital of the
province. Elsa and Luis, her husband, are restoring a small museum
of archaeology.

Elsa Veron’s work with the kids was recognised during the
paintings exhibitions she organized in Salta. Thus « La casa de
Policia » of Vaqueros, a Youth Hospitality Centre run by policemen
to welcome street kids, has asked her to participate to these
kids’ development by teaching them painting.

In Alpachiri, province of Tucuman, Analia Sanchez has created a
Constellation group called «Small Painters of Alpachiri ». Analia
has discovered Constellation in Venezuela, as she was one of
Maritza Montero’s student. Since 1999, more than 80 kids have been
gathering every Saturday around the painter Dardo. They’re divided
in 2 groups: one for the 5 to 12 years old, and the second one for
the 12 to 16 years old. They’re in touch with “Pineles y
Pincelitos Gauchos”, the Constellation group located in the North
of Argentina. During the summer 2000, they organized in Tucuman a
great exhibition.

Elsa Veron has created three new groups in the tropical forest area where
she was born, about 300 km from Salta:

Another group, also created on
Elsa's initiative, is intended for children
of the Wichi and Tobas communities, which live in the village of
Embarcacion, 200 km from Salta.
These children live near the Bermejo river. They speak a dialect called
matacos. This community lives from fishing.
Women weave a vegetal fibre called chaguar that grows in the forest.
The village school teacher, Estela, Elsa's sister, takes care of the
children with Elsa's help.

The El Quebrachal group brings
together children from the aboriginal Wichi
Chane y Matacos community in the village of Valluvian, 20 km away from
Embarcacion. This community lives from the sale of its handicraft made
from
chaguar, seeds, wood and leather.
Elena Beatris Velarde, the community school principal, also Elsa's cousin,
is the one who takes charge of this group with the help of Elsa.

Finally, a third group called "Pesebre
del Niño Manuelito" is settling down
in Jujuy. These are children whose parents work in the mine.
The name they chose for their group reveals the devotion of their
community
to the Child Jesus, whom they celebrate several days in a row at Christmas
time.
Elsa's sister, Marta Elena, and her husband Pablo will take care of this
painting group.
